Donations: Where to Donate Clothes, Accessories, Books & More

Decluttering is a fantastic way to reclaim space in your home and bring a sense of calm and organization to your life. But once you’ve sorted through your belongings and decided what to part with, the next challenge is figuring out where to donate everything.

Fortunately, if you’re in the Phoenix area, there are plenty of trustworthy nonprofits and organizations eager to take your items off your hands. Below, I've compiled a handy guide to help you find the perfect place to donate everything from clothes and books to makeup and linens.

Clothes, Bags & Accessories

If you’re looking to donate men’s, women’s, and children’s clothing, you can’t go wrong with local favorites like Goodwill, Saint Vincent de Paul, and the Salvation Army. These organizations do great work in the community by reselling donated items to fund various charitable initiatives. Another great option is Savers, which partners with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Arizona, helping to provide essential services to local children. Shelters like the Central Arizona Shelter Services are also looking for used clothes and accessories.

Additional Organizations:

Consignment Stores

If you’d like to earn a little extra cash for your gently used items, consignment stores are a fantastic option. Buffalo Exchange and Plato’s Closet are popular spots where you can drop off your clothes and accessories. They’ll sell your items for you, and you’ll earn a percentage of the sale price.

Books & Toys

Many thrift stores accept books and toys, which they then resell at discounted prices. But if you’re a book lover looking to donate, check out Changing Hands Bookstore, with locations in Phoenix and Tempe, or Half Price Books. These stores often buy back your gently used books, giving you the chance to earn store credit or cash while also supporting a local business.

Library & Charity Organizations

For those who prefer to support community services, Friends of the Phoenix Library and VNSA are excellent choices. These organizations accept book donations, which they sell during special events to raise funds for library programs or other local human services. It’s a great way to give your books a second life while supporting a good cause.

Makeup & Toiletries

Women’s Shelters

Unused makeup and toiletries can make a big difference for women in need. Consider donating to shelters like the Phoenix Rescue Mission, Maggie’s Place, or the Sojourner Center, which distribute these items to women who are rebuilding their lives.

Towels, Linens, and Fabrics

Pet Shelters

Animal shelters and rescue organizations are often in need of towels, pillowcases, and linens to help care for their animals. The Arizona Animal Welfare League & SPCA and the Arizona Humane Society are two no-kill shelters that would greatly appreciate your donations.

Some, like The Bad Girls Do Good Things, use these materials to create items like pillows for recovering breast cancer patients. Always contact the organization first to confirm their current needs.
